Are Your Employees Happy?

« Back to BlogIt seems like a pretty simple question, but are you sure you know the answer? Ask yourself the following questions and see if you like the answers:
- Do your employees enjoy their work-life experience?
- Is your current knowledge management strategy successful?
- Can you track the effectiveness of your team?
- Do you know what your employees need and can't find?
- Do your employees feel empowered with the right resources, available when then need them?
More importantly, how do you know how accurate your answers are? Companies today are simply different than they were 50 years ago. If major technology initiatives are not top of your 2024 to-do list, you may have a retention problem.
How do your employees find the information they need today? There are lots of knowledge management solutions out there that can, in theory, provide a solution. However, the problem with tools like Intranets, internal Wiki's, file shares, and even emailing Joe in Accounting for the answer is they're not reliable. Information can become stale or inaccurate while the best information becomes buried in uncertainty. Effective technology is more important than ever to maintain a productive workplace.
Do more with less, and "happier employees are more productive" (Fast Company)
This was our biggest focus when designing AskHR. Personalizing the user experience for fast, reliable answers to your everyday questions. It goes far beyond traditional "human resources" too. People want information quickly, and want to do it on their own time in their own way. According to a recent report, "84% of global consumers claim that their mobile devices make them more productive at work", and yet a vast majority of companies still aren't supporting the trend. Unified communications, using familiar platforms - like Slack, Teams, and even Alexa to name a few - provide both flexibility and enhanced user experience.
Imagine for a minute you need to find out important medical insurance plan information, or make changes to your 401k. Where do you start? What about new employees, or people in other offices? Now imagine having a go-to virtual "assistant" you can ask that will help you find the right answer. Day or night, at home or at work. Technology such as an AI-powered chatbot as a workplace resource can not only provide accurate answers very quickly, it can be personalized to each user too. Depending on who is asking a question and where they are or what department they're in you can target the best answers to them immediately.
"60% of HR and business leaders do not have an adequate program to measure or improve employee engagement" (Deloitte Global Human Capital Trends)
Even better, smart technology can free up your Human Resources team to focus more on developing strategy. This means teams will have more time to analyze employee engagement and happiness trends and better react to the ever changing office landscape. A survey by CareerBuilder found "a lack of HR automation can have a negative ripple effect on a business" including a drop by things like productivity, errors, employee experience, and less engagement.
"Only 5 percent of organizations feel they are effective at tracking and using talent analytics" (Gartner)
Automation technology can make answering common questions and automating various workflows - such as data collection and on-boarding - a breeze. What it can't replace is the human touch of shaping company culture and interacting with employees and managers to maintain a high level of happiness and engagement. Even more importantly, using technology to augment your team additionally gives you powerful analytics to drive your strategic direction. With good technology, you'd be able to see a dashboard of employee sentiment trends and track topic areas for changing employee needs.
So, what's your technology strategy for 2024?
